The Vaccines have won this year's Xfm New Music Award. The band were awarded the prize for their debut album What Did You Expect From The Vaccines? in a ceremony at Manchester's HMV Ritz yesterday ( February 8). ©  Rex Features Advertisement - Continue Reading Below The album beat off debut efforts from Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds, Beady Eye, Ed Sheeran, Miles Kane, Chapel Club, Ben Howard, Benjamin Francis Leftwich, James Blake and Scroobius Pip. The Vaccines were handed the gong after a panel including Muse drummer Dominic Howard, Noah & The Whale singer Charlie Fink, Editors frontman Tom Smith and former New Order bassist Peter Hook. The group recently revealed that they will be recording their second studio album in March, with frontman Justin Young adding: It'll definitely be out this year. > The Vaccines: ' We're not going to make the same album again' Watch the music video for The Vaccines' ' Tiger Blood'.
Jason Kempin, Getty Images Since the release of their fourth studio album in 2013, Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Action, Franz Ferdinand have been fairly quiet. Until now. According to London radio station XFM 104.9, Franz Ferdinand are “joining forces to form a supergroup” with Sparks, called FFS. “ After forming a mutual appreciation society ten years ago, Scottish rockers Franz Ferdinand and American quirksters Sparks have just confirmed they’re forming a supergroup together,” the station reports. And not only that, but FFS have confirmed a gig at Festival Internacional de Bencassim in Spain (get their full tour schedule below). In addition to the appearance at Bencassim, FFS will also be recording an album, produced by John Congleton, a Grammy-winning producer who has worked with the likes of St. Vincent, Modest Mouse, Heartless Bastards, David Byrne and Mini Mansions (just to name a few). December 30, 2009, 06:34 PM 1 XFM's all-time top 1,000 songs of all time The top 100 polls are common enough but I've not heard a top 1,000 poll before. Not a huge Xfm fan but it's interesting stuff. They're into the 400's now. Between 500 and 1,000 there was a smattering of Smiths and Moz - about three or four of each, but they've been Morrissey's very best ( Suedehead, Playboys, More you ignore) and just average Smiths songs, so get the impression there'll be a lot more Smiths than Moz in the rest of the chart. Everyday is like Sunday will obviously be in there, and presumably First of the Gang & Irish Blood. Not sure about any others. Marr's doing well with his Cribs, Modest Mouse and Electronic stuff all appearing in the top 1,000 to date. 0 December 30, 2009, 08:33 PM 2 Re: XFM's all-time top 1,000 songs of all time 600 Aerosmith And Run DMC - Walk This Way 599 Weezer - Buddy Holly 598 Underworld - Born Slippy 597 U2 - Sunday Bloody Sunday 596 The Offspring - Self Esteem 595 The Cure - Pictures of You 594 Stereophonics - Pick A Part That'ss New 593 The Walkmen - The Rat 592 Elastica - Line Up 591 The Doors - Light My Fire 590 The Stranglers - No More Heroes 589 Kings of Leon - Notion 588 The Ruts - Babylon's Burning 587 Ladyhawke - Paris Is Burning 586 The Rolling Stones - Ruby Tuesday 585 The Killers - A Dustland Fairytale 584 The Enemy - Had Enough 583 The Doors - Riders On The Storm 582 The Clash - White Riot 581 The Breeders - Cannonball 580 The Flaming Lips - Race For The Prize 579 Garbage - Queer 578 Talking Heads - Psycho Killer 577 Suede - The Beautiful Ones 576 Pulp - Sorted for E's & Whizz 575 Oasis - Songbird 574 Soundgarden - Black Hole Sun 573 Richard Ashcroft - A Song For The Lovers 572 Fall Out Boy - Thanks for the Memories 571 The Stone Roses - Ten Story Love Song 570 The Charlatans - Tellin'.
